HI everyone I need some help in replaceing the transom on my 16 foot aluminum runabout. I am new to boats, I just bought this boat 2 years ago for a family fishing boat, and if I dont get this thing fixed right away it may be rotted away to nothing by the time my daughter is even old enough to get out on the water in it. I was starting to replace my floor because I noticed some soft spots from rotted wood. Then while I was back in the area where my gas tanks are I noticed alot of the screws that where supposed to be tightend securely in the transom where half hanging out and the ones that did seem to be in place still wouldnt tightin up like they were striped out or somthing. well IM thinking the wood inside the aluminum transom part most surely be rotted..anyhow the boat I have is a 1986 blue fin like I said before its a 16foot runabout style not sure of what exact model or anything. does anyone on here have an idea of how to replace wood in transom if that is what is wrong with mine? is this something the whole boat is going to get torn apart for or what? I would assume the engine has to come off but how do i get to the wood its covered by aluminum sheet metal from both outside and inside. if anyone knows something about this boat or on how to replace/repair transoms on aluminum boats at all any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks guys hope to here some good advise
