I am replacing the floor and stringers and after further examination of the transom that needs to be replaced as well. The transom is very low to the water and under the right wind/current conditions water will come over the back. I have never been swamped but it could definitely happen. I was looking at ways to fix this problem and it seems like a bracket with a higher transom would be the easiest and also add space to the back of the boat. The other option would be to just replace the transom back to original and then build some sort of water blocking structure but lose more space in the back. Any idea are welcomed. I am not sure how a brackets added distance would change the CG of the boat and then the planing characteristics but it is just a thought. Here is one example of a bracket and then one with a swim platform.
