I have ordered a new (actually used) transom assembly and I want to "get my ducks in a row" before I begin installing it. I bought a new transom seal (giant o ring basically). Does it get glued into the transom assembly first, and then some sort of sealer applied? I thought about using some silicone - not the hardening silcone rubber, but the "vaseline" type of silicone gel that I use for the o rings on my pool filter. Would that be good to use? If not, what is recommended?

Re: transom seal installation

Fishermark,

The seal normally just sits in the groove. If you want to use an 'o' ring grease, it won't hurt. I used a sealer on mine the first time I put it in. Couple of years later I had to take it out. OUCH! It was a pig to get off. It went back on WITHOUT sealer!

Chris........
