Re: transom sealant?

Sealant around a transom shield usually indicates a feeble attempt to fix a leak due to a rotten transom. Or someone installing a transom shield without a new seal and hoping it doesn't leak.
The transom shield is like a big soft rubber oring, About 3/4" in diameter.

For future reference, 3M 5200 is a good below the waterline sealant. Not where you want it, but everywhere else.
