Hi

I have 2000 7.4gi vp duoprop and have a small sea water leak coming in through the two top transome shield mounting bolts . The Question is can i just take these bolts out and put sealant on the bolts and replace or do i have to take off the whole outdrive and reseal .

Thanks in advance for any help

Cheers Dave

Re: transom shield leak

I'd try sealant on the bolts, then see what happens. At a fraction of the work/cost of a shield re & re.
No harm done if it doesn't work.

No don't just seal the bolts and call it good.
You need to remove those 2 bolts, and on the outside of the transom shield, remove 4 screws on the top cover. There are 2 foam gaskets that you need to replace. Sealing just the screws may stop water from coming into your boat, but it may not keep water out of your transom which will lead to rot.

Item #32 here at iboats. http://www.volvopentastore.com/Tran...*****.393296882--store_id.366--view_id.325014

Ah, there's nothing like the voice of experience to keep us in good repair. I was unaware that there was more parts involved than on a Merc alpha.
Thanks, Don.

Thanks for that Don looks a less involved than I first thought.
