Transom thickness

I couldn't get an exact measurement of my transom before I cut it out. It seemed to be about 2 or 2 1/8 inches. Does anyone know what the maximum thickness I could go is? Not that I plan on going much thicker but it could end up 2 1/4 or so depending on how much glass I put on. Also FWIW I have been checking prices and Poly resin costs $28 with tax here, I can order a 13 gal epoxy kit for $29.00 a gal or a 6.6 gal kit for $34 per gal so I'm going with epoxy all the way.

Re: Transom thickness

If the boat is an outboard type, measure the distance from the splashwell and the outer shell at the transom. This inner dimension is how thick you can go. If it is an inboard, it may be more complicated due to the outdrive mounting hardware and the position of the engine and how it mounts to it. Hope that sort of made sense. On my project I was able to go 3/8 inch thicker because they had built the transom and then use a small 3/8 thick piece of ply as filler between the splashwell and transom. I just glassd in a transom that was the entire thickness of that dimension, and it it very strong. Good luck...
