I just repowered to a 60 HP Merc. I am turning 5000 WOT. I am going to re pitch to get closer to 5600 WOT. My question is does anyone have expierence with a transom wedge. my boat is currently nose high, and i fear it will get worse after i re pitch.

Any suggestions?

Re: Transom Wedge

Welcome to Iboats!

Nice Talking to you earlier, let me know how the Smart Tabs work out.

I do not like using the prop to correct the attitude of the boat. It is obviously common to do so, but it also runs the prop through the water at an angle which is not effiecient in terms of power, thrust, or fuel economy. Propellers are for propelling, not lifting the heavy stern.

Re: Transom Wedge

If you are already trimming her all of the way in, and she is still running nose high...then your solution may lie elsewhere.

I put wedges on once to help my hole shot. They did help. They were necessary only due to the fact that the transom of the particualr boat ( a 20 ft GulfCoast /Boston Whaler copy) was nearly flat. We did not have enough trim-in due to the transom angle. I had to immediately trim her out once she was on plane.

I'd be looking at moving weight forward; a hydrofoil or tabs.
I recently put tabs on my 16 foot Carolina Skiff 40 hp Yamaha and they appear to be doing the trick. I don't know how big your boat is, but you can get tabs for as little as $100.00 (Smart-tabs), or go up to up to $400 /$500 or so for full fledged hydraulics (Bennet). I think the electric tabs. (Lenco) are in the middle of that range.
Lots of guys swear by tabs ( one manufacturer or another) for the solution to your problem.

RichG
