Hi everyone. I have acquired this boat very cheaply. Obviously retail value is low. However it has tons of sentimental value to me. Most of the work I can do on the interior. However I noticed these cracks around the metal transom cap. I have tried pushing on the bottom of the motor. And yes is does have some flex however not a lot.
my question is how concerning is the damage?

I would say that wood in the transom is rotten.-----Many threads on this site on how to repair that sort of damage.------Working on a boat right now.-----No wood in it when I am done.----Composite materials going in with carbon fiber / epoxy.

Do. Not. Use. That. Boat. Till you repair the transom, and stringers if it has them. It will break and you will get very wet. Hopefully you will make it to shore without Drowning.

at the top of the forum are the stickies. the 4th down is the DIY sticky. open it and go thru links 14, 15, 18, 2, 3, 4a, and 4b

in their entirety.

if you want to save it for sentimental reasons, we will help you restore it.

its going to be a lot of works and a fair amount of cash.

however as indicated above, dont use it. currently your transom is rotten and the motor is in process of tearing a portion of the transom off the boat.

What is with the plant growing inside the transom? That indicates the wood has turned to soil. Not good.

Agreed the boat I am working on also had plants growing out of it.-----They can't grow in carbon fiber , composite material and WEST SYSTEM epoxy when I am done.
