Visited a friend today and noticed his rig for taking the weight off his transom during storage...using a bathroom scale under a slim scissor jack he jacked under the skeg oe the motor until the scale read the weight of the motor!

Re: Transon support

Hummmm.

The transom is designed to take the weight of the motor (as long as the motor is within USCG specs)

The boat is designed to take the weight of the motor (as long as the trailer is properly adjusted)

But.....is the skeg designed to take the weight of the motor?

Re: Transon support

don't know why you'd need to do that.

Re: Transon support

A waste of a good bathroom scale. All he is doing is stressing the skeg...
Useless idea IMO....

Very very odd! What does he do with the trailer to take the weight off the springs during storage? Sky hooks? Does your friend drill holes in his boat hull too?

Re: Transon support

Ayuh,... Too Funny sometimes with the steps Boaters will go though to protect things that don't need protecting...

The transom could care less about the weight of a motor...
Think about the STRESS imposed when at Full Throttle from a stop....
That's WAY MORE than the weight of the motor, yet nobody thinks of supporting the motor in the down position....
