I buy a boat with a good 140 85' merc. with the trailer.

Yank my 2.5l omc out. Move boat out of the way so we can get the boat with the 140 under the hoist setup in my backyard.

Mind you i have doctors lawyers and stock brokers living all around me, probably don't appreciate the boat yard in my backyard. Latter for them.

Put the engine on a pallet discovered bad oil pan in my driveway when i ran it.

Runs good strong.

Pull the good oil pan off the 2.5 and the pan off the 140. Different oil pumps, switch oil pump from 2.5 to 140 paint the pan really really good.

New 3 piece gasket, on it goes the pan.

Yank off the manifold off the 140 with the carb and elbow one piece.

Yanked off the manifold carb and riser of the 2.5 and left it to the side in my boat.

Bad fuel pump on the 140 put the one from my 2.5 on perfect fit new gasket.

Thank g-d they are both 1985 motors.

Pull the coupler off the 140 with flywheel.

Put coupler and flywheel from 2.5 on 140, 140 little bit of rust on flywheel.

Pull boat back under hoist after hauling motor up 15 feet to clear back.

In it goes. Engine just didn't fit right but bolt it up to bell housing and reinstall everything.

Pull boat to front of house, hook up water.

Starter don't turn the motor. Can't crank it manually.

What the ----.

Yank the boat back around the house under the hoist and disconnect everything.

4 bolts stick out to far from the flywheel. Pull four bolts and install 4 bolts from the 2.5.

This time the engine slips in almost bye itself. Bolts up to bell housing sweet as can be.

Bring water and muffs to back of the house, starts right up. Runs great.

Change out the dizzy cap new one just put on the 2.5 same stuff.

This was yesterday.

Today last kid goes on the school bus at 7:45, 7:46 me and my buddy with fishing rods head off to launch and test out the boat.

Idle out just fine past the sailboats at Keyport NJ. All is good with the world.

Put the hammer down kaboom, i turn off the motor.

Large hose from the water pump to t-stat blew.Had the dog house on the motor.

No spare hose tape it up with black tape and while waiting for motor to cool take off the t-stat cover to see t-stat. Just messed up pieces and the top of the t-stat off in the hole where the water was supposed to go.

Bolt hole stripped.

Limp in. Put on trailer.

Come home take off t-stat assy off 2.5 install it with new gasket on 140. Buy new hose on way home install that. Take tools and old hose as a spare and go back out on the water.

Go past the sailboats temp rising i pull back temp goes down.

New t-stat this year May.

Give it juice temp rising.

Ok beside myself, what the ----.

Pull t-stat top off and the t-stat is rusted solid marine one 24 dollars with gasket.

Put back top no leaks and start it up.

Perfect temp no blown head gasket no problems purring.

Give it juice ran perfect.

Good oil pressure.

Ran for a hour, hour and a half.

Come home try to put drive down don't go.

Pull the clutch housing cover off and pull the clutch and take it apart clean it and reinstall it. New oil in the housing tilt works great.

Go to start it to wash salt water out of the motor on muffs. No start.

Freekin selanoid went. Friend had one install that, starts great.

What a day.
