Wrap it up in something in case it leaks oil/gas into your vehicle. Welcome to the iboats forum.

Just so everyone is clear on this, it makes no difference if a two-stroke is transported on it's side provided the oil resevoir is drained if the engine is oil injected. If one transports a four-stroke (generally a portable) there is normally a sticker on the engine telling you which side to lay the engine on. Do it wrong and the oil gets into the cylinders and hydrolocks. If you need to transport a four stroke, be safe and drain the oil but if it's going to a shop make sure you tag it indicating it has no oil in it.

Make sure the water is well drained out before laying it on its side.

If you are picky about pristeen cowlings, you need to cushion it against vibration caused by the transport vehicle which will make your paint dull or wear it off wherever it rests.

Other thing, back in the '60's I bought an OMC 5 1/2 that had the gearshift lever on the starboard side....as did a lot of engines then. The lever was severely damaged as a result of being placed on that side and bouncing around in the back of a p/u truck....in addition to cowling damage.
