Hello everyone, So I got a 1983 4.5 Seahorse that was running and starting great until I was transporting the motor on its back (the throttle handle upward and spark plug on the bottom) when I am ending up with fuel mixture all over the engine the spark plugs completely soaked and having a hard time starting even though I am running 50/1 mixture.
Could the transporting be the issue? Tomorrow I will leave the motor upright during transport back and forth to the Ocean and see if my assumption is correct if I am ending up with the same problem I will be stuck.
Couple of tiny bitty holes on both sides of the lower gear about 1/16 Th.and about where the second block of the lower gear connects to the lower block also had oil coming out of them while hanging on in the garage any one having any idea why? The carburetor air intake was leaking fuel and oil mixture when Starting the other day even though the motor is running ok.

I appreciate any help thanks,
Costy

very likely you just filled the float bowl and flooded the carb. Iif you can install a fuel shutoff valve (or if it has one already) that would take care of the problem.

Disconnect fuel line before laying it down.

Will also help to drain the carb bowl when done using it, before transit.

exhaust sludge draining from lower unit and leg weep holes is normal, thats what the holes are for.

Fill a cup with water. Now turn the cup sideways. What happens? Fuel runs out of the carb just like water runs out of the cup. It's a gravity thing. Run the engine out of fuel (although that still doesn't drain it all) and see if that helps. It doesn't make much difference which way you lay it. The float bowl will always be tipped unless the engine is transported upright.
