Has anyone on here restored a Trawler. Would love to see a link to the thread. I have a new obsession with trawlers and am now in the market. they seem like a lot of boat for the money.

Lots of them on Lake Erie.

To the OP, what kind of Trawler? (hopefully not confusing with Troller) There are all kinds, and some are good and some, well, let's just say not so good.

I will eventually settle for something in the 36 range. So far, I like the Mainships, and the Grand Banks, but have plenty of time to learn and make my choice. I'm definitely not in a hurry. Also have a like for some of the smaller Albin (?) boats.

Check LanierMarine.com for great project boats of all kinds. They're north of Atlanta.

Otherwise, check Boattrader.com and filter it for your part of the country. There are many such boats listed.

if you are mentioning both "Grand Banks" and "Mainship" then you still have a lot of figuring out about to do about what you really want. A real Grand Banks is a wood hull, (teak planked from Hong Kong as I remember), and a true single screw displacenment hull (at 36' about 8 knots at best). A mainship is all fiberglass, singe or twin screw and is actually a semi-displacement hull (36' wil do somthing like 18 knots for there earlier ones, I don't know now).
There are lots of differnt types, with different accomodations and power options, Grand banks & Choy Lee are two top names in wood hulls (at least in the 70's & 80's they were still wood), Marine Trader & Mainship are known names in 'glass' hulls. Mainship is part of Silverton Marine corp (Silverton, Luhrs, Hunter, Mainship), and they have always worked to give good value for the $, -- good boats.

I've seen quite a few GB's from the 70's with fiberglass hulls.

Hmm, ... didn't know they did glass hulls too then. Thanks! (Always new stuff to learn.)

Yep, we have 2 different coasts here where they are popular; one north and one south.:joyous:

Back to the ops question. Is there a specific size you are looking for? They start at roughly 25' and some can be in excess of 100'. then you have the trawler tugs like Ranger and Nordic to name a couple.

Edit:There are a few around

Are you thinking a trawler restoration to trawl/work with... or a trawler conversion to a pleasure boat?
