Trick to Removing Starter....???

I have an 88 Bayliner with a OMC 3.0L GM motor that I need to pull the starter out of. (the mounting bolts are vertical)... Is there a trick to getting this thing out. I cant seem to get a wrench around the bolts to pull it out and I cant get a socket on it because the bolts are all but up against, what appears to be, the flywheel cover...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.....

Nevermind.... I got it.. had to remove the silly flywheel cover first... its been a long day......
