First off, I would like to thank you all for all of your help, it has been really great! Reading your forum's have been very helpful. Now to my question. First off I have a mariner 1976-85 year motor. Serial # 5964738. I'm not sure of the precise year. It is a 50 hp 4-cylinder. Can I check the trigger with an ohm meter, with it off the motor? Also should there be any continuity between any of the four wires? Because there is between two of them. Can the switch box be checked with ohm meter off the motor as well? If so please explain, Also one of the cream colored wires on the trigger is brickley ,and the other three are not .Thank you once again, Pepper

Although a DVA is a much better tool to test your ign. system yes a OHM meter will work, the switch box can not be tested and is checked through elemonation. Heres the complete test for you system.
