trigger plate, switch box or coil?

i got a 50 hp merc outboard. the battery is not charging everything else seems to run ok.did some snooping found a burnt wire from the trigger plate to the box and another burnt wire from the middle coil to the box.any suggestions <br />THANKS

It woulld be nice if you could narrow it down a bit.That 50 has been around a long time with several ignition and some charging system variations.The components you describe are ignition components and are usually a separate system from your charging circuit.

Typically it is the rectifier. List $35.60

where would the rectifier be i didnt see it on the diagram i have for my engine?sorry iam green when it comes to boat motors
