The threads on my flywheel where corroded pretty bad or still had paint in them so I used a tap set to open up the threads to allow me to use my puller to remove flywheel so I could change my stator.while using the tap I noticed after getting the flywheel off that I had ran the tap into the trigger/timer base about an 1/8".can anyone tell me if the timer base is still good after my goof up or will I have to replace it?

Thanx in advance

Re: trigger / timer base

In order for members to attempt to answer that question, they would need to know the engine you're speaking of. If the timer base is the one piece sealed unit type whereas you cannot see the timing sensors... I would suggest that you check out the ohm resistance readings as per your manual, then if that checks out... Try an initial run. You have nothing to lose except a little time.

Can you or someone give me the specs of what it should read in ohms and the correct procedure to test trigger/timer base?I just got the motor and do not have a manual for it yet.
thanx in advance

Re: trigger / timer base

When you crank the engine, the timer base will output a small amount of voltage. Perhaps 0.2 or 0.3 volts. You'll have to check the factory service manual for the exact figure on that engine. Less than that factory figure and it should be replaced. This website has some good troubleshooting info: cdielectronics.com You will also note that you need a special "peak reading" voltmeter to read the output. Why not just crank the engine and see if you have spark?
