Out on the water and all of a sudden the boat starts running a bit rough especially when i move the trim. when i hit the trim switch the voltage reading goes way down and the boat skips like it shut off, even burped through the carb once. seems like its an electrical issue with maybe a bad battery or more likely alternator. can it be that the trim use is causing a drop in voltage that affects the engine running due to decrease in voltage? just prior to this i hit a sand bar pretty hard with outboard, but it didnt start happening right away. any thoughts

Ayuh,..... Odds are ya got dirty electrical connections,.....

Start at the battery, 'n clean to shiny metal clean the wirin' ends, both ends of all the cables,......

I suspect it's a bad ground connection,.....

My thoughts are to check the connections at the fuse panel and battery switch (if you have one)

Thank for the responses. I think your right on with it being a grounding issue. another suggestion was that maybe from the jolt of the sand bar hit a wire came loose , or got pinched.. Ill be looking for the needle in the needlestack.

Check the terminals on your tilt n trim relays, battery cables especially the negative where it attaches to the engine bell housing.
