1972 Mercruiser 120hp Had one of the external lines leaking earlier this year and replaced all four of them. Filled the pump full of oil. Local shop here said no need to bleed it so I didn't. Trim worked fine for several outings. 4-6 went out the other evening trim worked fine until I got home. went to lower it and pump would run but lu would not go down. Next day in the light checked oil level in pump and it was low. added oil and trim works fine again. Did I just get an air pocket trapped in the system when filling it the first time. The external hoses are not leaking nor can I see the cylinders leaking. No oil in the bilge so it's not leaking inside so I must have not gotten it full the first time. Bleed it or just keep checking it?

for the old one drives, there is a bleeding procedure in the sm..... it does say that normally it's self bleeding but that in the event of partial or complete loss of fluid, the system must be purged of air.. check out pp 7A15 in sm #1.....
on my last 1 drive, i replaced some seals in one of the rams... i bled it after reinstall to be sure i was hip....

thanks. The system was never out of oil. It worked fine, but just had a hose leak. I think will be fine now, but wanted to find out from the experts.
