Trim and Tilt issues

My boat trim and tilt pump and cylinders are not working. The rams are free and not stuck but when I hit the bow up,bow down, or trailer the solenoids just click. It's a mercruiser alpha 1 with a oildyne/eaton pump. ( according to a clymer shop Manual)
The pump has oil in it.
If anyone can help me with my problem it will be very helpful.
Thanks in advaced.

Re: Trim and Tilt issues

The pump itself is fine and works. I took the pump motor off and used an electric drill with a large flat head bit and the outdrive moved up and down with ease. Turns out the motor that turns the pump doesn't work. The motor turns freely by hand but I don't want to take it apart if I don't have to. The motor has a lable that says " SAE J1171 Marine". It has 3 wires (Green/white, Blue/white & black)
Can I hook it up to a battery to see if its the solenoids are bad? What wires are for postive & negitive?

Did you even look at that .pdf file I posted?

To test the motor, black wire on battery neg. Blue or Green on battery pos.
Blue is for up, green is for down.

Sorry the diagram is a little confusing to me. With all the wiring going in different places. This is really my first time working on the electrical system on my boat. Just wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up and spend more money on the boat.

The Manual you posted keeps crashing ( and not letting me look at it ) do you have a PDF Version?
Or can anything be done with google because I have gmail?
Thanks

hot wire the mnotor directly to a battery and see if it works. if it does then you need to look for a wiring problem. if it does not then you probably have a bad motor.

The manual probably isn't going to help you with the problem, the file I posted came directly out of that manual just easier to get to without digging through all the pages of the manual.

Only power either the green or the blue at a time... do not apply power to both at the same time.

The pump works now. I had to take the motor off hooked it up to the battery. It slowly came back to life. Put it back on the pump hooked every thing up and the drive only went down switched the wires and the drive went up. Bad solenoid. Everything is working properly now.
Thanks everyone
