I have a Bayliner Trophy 1987 with a Force125. The trim and tilt functions correctly except that it sags to the down position in about 3 minutes. The shock abosorber is leaking fluid. Would that account for this? How hard is it to replace the shock absorber? Where could I find one? Any idea as to where the manual release is on this unit?

Had the same problem with my '86 Force 125. Do a search here for "Force tilt and trim", all your answers are there. In your valve assembly (bottom of your trim motor) there are two snap rings holding in two round valve bodies. Remove the snap rings, run your tilt motor to build pressure and force one of the valve bodies out. Now insert a dowel and gently tap out the other valve body and shuttle valve. Take apart the two valve bodies (may help to heat gently with a torch) and replace the seats on the end of the spring (the search will give you the part numbers). Replace the O-rings (match them at Lowes) and reinstall and your good as new.

Thanks. What about the shock absorber? Isn't that factory sealed? That needs to be replaced right?

There are 2 cylinders that looks like a shock. Standing behind the engine, which one leaking. The one on the right is the tilt cylinder that has brass fitting at the top, which rots off sometimes. The one on the left should not effect the t/t.

It is the one on the left - the shock absorber, no hoses going to it. That won't have anything to do with the sagging? Should I replace that in addition to your advice?

I would not be too concerned about the shock. T/t this engine does not have manual release. The number 1 cause of leakdown are the seals AfrmVaBeach writes about. I think the shock controls the movement of the engine if you hit a underwater object, and the pressure relief valve in the t/t releases and the engine kicks up.
