I have a Force 120 motor on a Sea Pro SV1900CC boat with Mercury control box. I was having trim problems where the trim switch would stick in the up mode. Now, it will trim down but won't go up and I've isolated the problem to the trim switch in the handle itself. The question is, how do I get to the switch to replace it? I have a chrome metal throttle with a black plastic grip with the trim switch at your thumb. There are no screws or bolts that hold the black plastic grip/switch housing in. Does anyone know how to get to the switch to replace it?????? HELP!!!!!! Thanks for any advice.

JR
San Antonio, Texas

Re: Trim and Tilt Switch Mercury Controls

For anyone wandering the answer to my question, I found it out on my own from a mechanic at a dealer. On these type of Mercury controls, at the handgrip there is a squared plastic piece that is attached to the end of the hand-grip. It's the piece that has "BOW UP" BOW DOWN" on it that is around the trim switch itself. Crazy as it may seem, this piece is only glued on to the hand grip. You just take a screwdriver or something and knock that piece off. The switch is $25 and the new piece you knocked off is $5. Once you get that piece off, you just grab the old switch with a pair of pliars and it pulls right out. Just plug the new switch into the wires in the same order they came out, press the new switch in, and glue back on the new piece with superglue or 3M brand adhesive. A little tip of advice I was given. A common problem encounted with these controls and the switch is that the switch will sometimes rub the bottom of the piece you glued on. Before installing it, take a small file and file down the bottom of the new square piece about 1/8th of an inch.
