Trim cylinder problem?

My trim and tilt switch failed to work on my '78 115 erude. The relay clicks. I released the manual valve to lower the motor and it lowers the tilt to make contact with the trim but stops there with the trim in the full extended position. It appears that one or both of the trim cylinders are frozen. The boat was in storage outside with a cover for about 4 months. I always relieve the pressure from the cylinders after installing the transom saver. When I picked up the boat the cover was ripped at the shift lever and could have pressed against the trim switch (maybe but not likely) and the previous owner wired the boat so the switch worked without the ignition being on. Am I missing something? Is there another place to bleed the trim cylinder down? I installed new coil packs before I stored it and would like to check them. What would be the results of running the boat with it trimmed to max?

That's the way the manual release works. It'll stop at the top of the trim range. You can run it on a flushette like that, no problem.

Like JIT said -- if it works up but not down, swap the relays.

Thanks for the help. The trim motor was froze up. Guess I will try to get a new trim unit off ebay.
