I have read a number of trim question on here but can't find exactly the problem I am experiencing.

I have a 120 HP Force Year. Serial number is OE006543 so year is 1992 I think.

The motor trims up as soon as I press the tilt/trim switch but will sometimes not trim back down. When I hit the switch to trim down there is often a delay of 5 seconds or so before it suddenly starts to go down. No sound or anything, just nothing and then it will eventually start to trim down. This is an intermitent problem. Once the motor does start to trim downI can make it stop and start trimming again quickly.

By reading the forms I assume this could be a relay problem? If I need to replace them, can someone give me the part number. I think it might be 803632T but not sure as I can't tell if the diagram for the part is my exact model.

PS, this is my 20th year with this boat and motor and it still runs great (had one rebuild after a broken ring). You will see form the pictures it still looks mint!

Regards, Nick

Re: Trim delay Force 120

I don't know---maybe air in the system? Tilt to full up and trim to full down a couple of times to self bleed it, then check the fluid level in the reservoir and top off if necessary. See if the white plastic plug on the bottom is in tight. That's it I got nothing else.

Never mind! reread your post and it is intermittent like you say, maybe a sticking relay. Try reversing them.

sounds like a conductively challenged wiring system to me.

Could be?? A dirty switch,a dirty contact in the relay.
A bad relay.
WD-40 in the switch. Some of the switches were mde so you could take them apart and clean the contact.

Update: changed the relay and that fixed the problem. Works perfect now. Thanks.

Re: Trim delay Force 120

Just shows the power of this forum. I would have likely spent a few hundred bucks at a marina to get this simple problem diagnosed and fixed and had the inconvienence of hauling boat from the water and getting it there.

Great forum!
