Trim Fluid Check ?

86 omc i/o checked the fluid level the other day, loosened the fill screw with trim all the way up like the manual says ... it hissed like a gas cap would .. im assuming its normal , but i will ask anyway for peace of mind ... is a slight hissing normal while doing this fluid check ... ?

Yes some hissing is common. it usually comes from the air in the unit making its way to the reservior. the tilt unit requires cycling to purge the air from the system. the air is probably left from the original filling and since the unit was operating ok, the air built a little pressure up.
