Ok guys boat is driving me nuts, I've searched every possible thread already and can't come with an answer so.... 06 crownline 4.3 GL-E v6 volvo penta sx-m1 drive Volvo penta control shifter I keep popping the f2 10 amp mini fuse for the trim while in the water, on land I can run it up down a lot no problems, put it in the water and it doesn't last very long. So I took the shifter handle apart and found all 3 wires were rubbed bare and touching metal, blu green and red, so I repaired that took it out and just made it out from the dock and it popped. Being very upset I put a 30amp in it and that held but I used the trim very sparingly. What is going on? Wiring appears to be good now, so is my trim motor drawing excessively and getting ready to quit? It is a 2 wire motor, thanks for any help.

The wires in the shifter are connected to 2 solenoids which supply the power to the motor. Very little current is going through those wires.

Sounds to me as if you should be looking at the wiring on the externally mounted pump as this only seems to happen in the water.

My pump is in the engine bay, Bruce when you say solenoids do you mean the 2 relays for up and down on top of the engine? Could they be creating resistance to blow the mini fuse? They are right next to the mini fuse

Yes...those 2. Does the fuse blow when going up or going down? If it does one way and not the other, swap the relays and see if the problem moves.
