1984 4 Winns w/ Merc. Trim gage isn’t moving when I trim up/down. I get voltage fluctuations at the sender lead on back of gage when toggling trim switch. Is it safe ti say I have a bad gage?

With Key ON, see if you have 12V at the gauge

Have 12V - ground the wire going to the sender

Did gauge peg full up Yes, gauge is good, If no then gauge is bad

Gauge did peg full up - disconnect sender wires going into the transom.

Connect the two wires together coming from trim gauge and ground.

If gauge pegs full up, wires going to gauge are good, and sender on outdrive is bad

Thanks for the fast reply. So just remove the sender wire from the gage and jumper it to grnd (w/ key on)? Sounds simple enough.

Yep, could actually start at the stern were the wire comes from the gauge and ground there. If it doesn't move check for 12V at the gauge
