I just repowered from yamaha 115 4-strokes to 05 150 4-strokes and have 2 small problems now. 1)The duel control box on the console needs to be adjusted so the trottle arms are in the same position at the same RPM (EX: at 3000 rpm the port arm is about one inch difference then the starboard)
2) The yamahe digital tech for the starborad engine show a max trim up indication (with the top most bar flashing), requardless of the engine position.

Any help you can give me on these 2 small problems?

Re: Trim Gauge/Control Problems

Welcome to iboats.

There should be a paddle snugged around the tilt tube that you loosen to calibrate the trim gauges. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver.

The throttles don't have a Stop like they used to. There's quite a lot of room for adjustment. You'll have to play with the eyes on the ends of the cables until you get something consistent. I'd pick the one that is adjusted most to your liking and only adjust the other one. It gets confusing if you adjust both. Try to make sure each is well threaded on. I think they mention 11 turns, but I'm going by memory.

Do I adjust the cable at the engine or at the control box or does it matter???

It's easiest at the motor. Much less stuff to take apart. But they're still no picnic to get at.

Thanks Willy,

I will work on the cable adjustment tomorrow. I did get a good look at the trim "paddle". It looks to be in the same position on each engine (trimmed down the paddle is level and just touching the tab on the other part of the switch).

Re: Trim Gauge/Control Problems

the flashing trim indicator is a harness difference that affects 04 guages with 05 engines.
you need a tech to identify that you do indeed have all the necessary wiring to connect your new yamahas to old guages. there is an excellent piece of literature i just received regarding just this problem, ill bring it home tomorrow and scan and post it.
at present yamaha make 3 digital tachs
03 and prior. 04 (is an 03 tach with a factory fitted 2 wire extension harness) 05. 05 is discernable by the pink wire that can be disconnected.

Re: Trim Gauge/Control Problems

Thanks for the help. I did adjust the control cable today and will see If I went in the correct direction next time I take it out.
The gauges were new installed in 2001. I checked the small internal swithes to make sure they were set the same in both Techs, they were. I got a good look at the paddle wheels again today and it apperars to be adjusted correctly (same as the port engine).

you need the interface adapter pn. 6y5-85335
i have seen it used at the engine or behind the dash as long as the orientation is correct. i am at a loss as to why both guages are not showing flashing trim indicators.
