Trim gauge not working

Don't know if I really need this gauge but maybe I do ? Its on a 2000 Kenner with a 2000 90 hp Johnson , can someone tell me what to check to see if I can get it to working ?

I've always used my "Ears" and never looked at the gauge even if the boat had one. JMHO

Tilt the motor all the way up and look in the transom bracket for the sender. On my '98 Johnny, it is a black plastic paddle that is pushed down when the motor is trimmed down.

It would be on the port side bracket.
