Trim hoses, alpha one

One of the hoses to the trim cylinders is leaking at the fitting (where the fitting is crimped onto the hose). The hoses I have are covered with stainless mesh. Has anyone replaced these external hoses and where did you obtain them? Is the steel mesh necessary?

1988 model Alpha One.

All the new ones look like that.

Depending what hose you have leaking, I would make sure I get the correct replacement.
Alpha 1 doesn't really mean much. There are several cylinder configurations for different hoses that include port & stbd.

Oh, obtain here!

Good auto stores that makes up brake lines can do them to any length. The steel braiding is just to protect them from rubbing.

I replaced the hoses on my Bravo 1 with the more 'generic' Sierra brand hoses. No steel mesh and No issues after 5 years. I believe that the Mercruiser brand have the Stainless steel mesh and the price to go with it.

The thing that I did not like about the steel mesh was that it would begin to fray over time and get me right in the tip of the finger whenever I worked around the outdrive . . . OUCH !!! :(
