Re: trim indicator problem

Mine did the same thing. There is a coil spring that is supposed to keep the sensor touching the engine. It had corroded in the up position, and all I had to do was oil it and "work it in". The entire assy is usually between the engine and the mount on the transom.

Re: trim indicator problem

I had a similar problem. I raised the engine and found the actuator lever for the sender. It moved up and down just fine, but the gage reading stayed in the same place. I thought it was my gage, but it wasn't. It turns out that the sender is just a variable resistor, and the metal shaft had frozen up and stripped out the inside of the plastic actuator. It moved just fine, but the resistance value did not change with trim, since the resistor was stuck firmly in one place. I could not free it up, so I just bought one and installed it today--set me back $79 plus tax, and man were those two screws hard to get out.
