New to me boat 71 Thunderbird Comanche. Looks like the wires to a trim limit switch. Both toasted and brittle going into the plate. The trim sender and gauge work. Questions: Can I just leave this unplugged, tape up the clean plugs and operate cautiously i.e. don't trim out too far and then replace that switch next time the back end is off for bellows and hose replacement? Or is that a hot safety item and should be replaced now? What is involved in doing a replacement correctly i.e. part cost and time to do the job? Anything else to do at the same time? Thanks for your assistance and have a great and safe 4th of July.

Pull the plugs and join the harness ends with a short jumper. This lets you use the UP/OUT button all the way up instead of having to use UP and UP/OUT buttons together all the time. Forget replacing the switch, it's NLA...

No safety issue apart from timing up too high, and you'll know about that soon enough.

Thank you Chris. I will be back at her tomorrow and do that. It was surprising how crunchy those wires to the NLA sender are and I suspect they were shorting thus making the ability to elevate the drive hit or miss. I hope to splash her next week. Ive attached a pic to show what my goal is. I'll post the results of the jumper as well.
