Trim lock pin? 125 Force

So my 1987 Force is running pretty good, but the trim unit is a little tired. It moves the motor up and down okay, but it won’t hold the trim underway. The pressure from the motor under load forces the trim cylinder piston down to the fully retracted position pretty quickly and the bow rides a little low.

I have replaced the O rings, but the problem endured.

is this something I could address by putting a lock pin through the lowest hole in the transom brackets?

I saw this one on eBay, and I wonder if that is what it’s for.

What's not holding the trim-piston? OR the tilt-cylinder? or both?
IF... you just want to hold it up in place with a pin; any pin will do

As I understand it, the pump and trim cylinder should be able to develop— and hold— enough hydraulic pressure to trim the motor up or down while underway to get the boat to plane out just right.

Mine won’t. I’ve tried to fix it but it is old and tired (me too!). So I’m wondering if I could use this pin, or something similar to hold it where the bow rides a little higher.

I’m a little concerned this “jury-rig” might snap or damage my transom brackets.

What orings? did you replace the springs inside too?
If you used heat to take things apart ?? you could have taken the temper from the springs and made them weak???
You install the seals right? upside down and they can leak.

That is a tilt pin but one for a lower HP than yours.
You can use it, wont hurt anything.

Being old shouldn't make a difference if all the parts are good.

All I worked on was the trim cylinder. The tilt cylinders work fine. I don’t remember seeing any springs in the trim cylinder.

All I saw in there was as O rings, items 28, 30, and two of item 31.

I replaced them and the top cap (item 27), because the top cap was corroded and it was leaking oil around the ram. The leak has stopped, but it still bleeds back down under pressure.

thanks for the heads up on the pin. I will try to work something out!

I am in Connecticut, where we don’t have summer, just 10 Saturdays 😛 so I have to try to get it back on the water as quick as I safely can.

Maybe the springs are in the pump? I took one of those apart once. I do not wanna do that again!

You're looking in the wrong area.
The 4th post(sticky) in the Force forum, the 6th line and the first picture shows the springs.
You probably "fixed" the wrong thing when you rebuilt for a leak down???

Well, it was leaking around the ram, so I got that fixed!

I’ll take a look at the rest.

That doesn’t look that hard. The lines should be easy to disconnect. This pump was swapped off a parts motor, so I’ve already had the lines off once and reconnected. I put a little anti-sieze on the fittings when I reconnected, so they should free up okay.

I think I’ll give it a try, thanks!
