Hi,

my trim motor housing is getting very warm after raising/lowering the motor a couple of times. In addition the red lead (directly from the battery to the unit) was getting VERY hot (almost enough to cause a burn). I noticed the ternimal area was corroded and cleaned the connection area. It does not get as hot now, but still gets pretty warm. The motor housing still gets pretty warm (not rediculously hot). Should there be some heat like this or am I statrting to have a problem of some type?
After I clened the terminal area the unit lifted the motor significantly faster.

Thanks in advance.

As in any electric motor, it will get warm to the touch, but should not get "red hot". It sounds like you cured the problem.

Thanks for the reply --- I just met with an electric motor rebuilder person --- he confirmed your comment --- the corrosion was causing the problem ---- but since it is very old (20+ yrs), I will take it to him this off-season for new brushes and a check-up
