Trim motor electrical question

Yamaha tilt motor isn't running. Ive traced the problem to one component. Inside the motor, just behind one of the brushes is a small black box about the size of my thumb nail and about 1/8" thick. Inside are two metal plates with contact points, the wire ties directly to the brush. This part is bad. Does anyone know what it is? I don't want to purchase a new motor assembly if I don't have to. Thanks

Thanks, That must not be my problem. I bypassed it yesterday, the motor should run but isn't. I'm getting power to the brushes. Might have to just replace the motor as a unit.

Re: Trim motor electrical question

Hopefully this thread is still alive. I got the motor running and it's fine. I've ordered up new brushes and springs. I'd prefer to put everything back together stock. Any thoughts on where I could either get one of those switches, or get the specs on it so I could purchase a similar one and install it. Typical Yamaha parts searches are not helping. Thanks again!
