Trim motor no power

My boat has a 190HP V6 mercruiser. The last time I parked my boat for storage the batteries were weak. When I tried to lower the outdrive it ran for just a second and then wouldn't move. I assumed it was the battery was too weak. I then connected jumper cables to the battery from my car to borrow some power to lower the drive unit. The volt guage registered 14 volts when connected to the jumper cables, but the drive unit still would not run at all. Is it possible that it wasn't pulling enough power from the cables since the batteries were dead or is it possible there is a fuse or breaker between the battery and drive motor that could have tripped causing it to not run at all?

Do you have a DVM or VOM and know how to use it? Also, do you have a wiring diagram or a manual?

Tommays, thanks for the wiring diagram link. It was a bad ground. Fixed in less than 5 minutes.
