I have a pretty good idea how to do this based on reading other posts. My only concern is supporting the engine considering that I will be doing it at my house without a hoist. Just wanted to see if anyone could give me some pointers and some simple instructions.

Can the trim motor be re-built or would I have to get a new one? Thanks!

You're more than likely going to have to remove the port side transom bracket to remove the trim unit from the motor. You need something overhead like some ceiling rafters or even a big tree:)

You will need to remove one side of the transom bracket. I put a piece of wood between the tilt tube and the transom, to take the weight that the transom bracket usually takes.

I am trying to visualize where to put the wood? Will this keep the motor for shifting? If the motor doesn't shift, sounds like a pretty simple job?
