I hope to have the correct terms .....

my trim solenoids work (clicking sound on both ) ...but the motor doesnt turn ....boat stored for 4 years ...

probably as my starter : corrosion ( cleaned : works)

dont want to do a mess.....do I just remove the top 4 bolts, and pull it up from trim pump ?

thanks , again !

Re: trim motor removal

Unplug the pump. Remove power wires. Remove hydraulic lines. Remove four screws securing it to your deck. Remove entire assembly from the boat, and start there...

Re: trim motor removal

Mine might be mounted differently, but this is how mine comes out.

If its the boat in your signature, it should be mounted to the bracket that runs behind it by two 14 mm bolts. Then you'll need to disconnect the black wire (ground), and blue and green wires going to the solenoids. Using a 7/16" open end wrench, remove the two hydraulic hoses from the front and make sure you have something there to catch the fluid. You'll also either want to tie up your outdrive or it will drop down when the pressure is released.

Pull the pump and reservoir up and out of the boat and be careful not to drop it (it might be slick from the lube).

The pump comes apart from the valve body with by removing two bolts at opposing corners of the unit and then pulling apart. I don't know what else it takes to actually remove the electric components from the housing as I didn't need to do that.

Hearing a click does not guarantee that you have 12v to the motor. Get a voltmeter and check between black and blue (up) or black and green (down)

Re: trim motor removal

ok ! I had 12V at the post ....ground was clean also ....

jump wire the connections ,still no move ...only clicking sound !

removed the wires , hydraulic hoses, the two 14mmm bolts at the back and the 7/8" side plugs or bolts (it has a spring in it )

then what ?

it`s out of the boat already !

thanks again !

Re: trim motor removal

I decided to look at it closely ,and I removed two of the top bolts that held the motor on the pump .......(the two other ones are holding the end covers together )

easy to lift ,just had to tap smoothly with a plastic hammer

no need to remove the side 7/8" plugs like I did .....

then very easy ;
removed the remaining two bolts that held both end covers in place

the top cover hides the brushes
mine were ok but armature was black oxided ....removed the armature sanded it with 400 grit sandppaper ....

rebuilted the whole thing ,taking time to clean & sand all connectors ....

testing later on tonight , I have a retirement party at 4hpm !:p:D

I'll guess you mean commutator? 400 is a bit coarse, finish it with something finer if you have it, maybe 1,000 wet/dry.
Are the mica insulators between the segments still below the surface? If not, they will need to be undercut.

Re: trim motor removal

started the engine with muffs ..... runs great !

let it ran 10-15 min to get the preservative oil out of cylinders...

oil pressure at 40 ...temp at 150 deg when warm ....

topped the outdrive oil level , greased the gimball bearing and tomorrow on the water tests !

the tachometer seems weird ....sometimes it shows idling at 750 rpm sometimes it sticks at 2000 rpm ( after reving )

the kill switch seems out of adjustement because as soon as i give gas it stops the engine ....
