Obviously you need a better manual.Try for the factory original .... it's the best.

I think your V6 has a trim limit switch that is sticking. If you pull the cover off the motor, and both lower pan covers, you should see it.About dead center, below the carbs, near the tilt tube.

DHP

Or you have a bad relay. Swap the relays and see if up works and downs quits working

Re: Trim not working 1998 250 Johnson

I have a factory manual but I am haven't been able to locate the electrcial schematic for the tilt/trim circuit. All I can find is a limit switch at the piviot point. I can unplug that and the trim will still operate down only. Is there anywhere online to find the schematic ?? the switch I'm looking at may be for a trim guage.

Try this site. Go to top of that page and start a search. http://epc.brp.com/default.aspx?brands=ej&lang=E Not exactly what you are looking for but might help. Are you sure it is not in the switch. Try a test light or use a hot wire to trouble shoot. On my older motor reversing the + & - at trim motor made the motor go up or down. Not sure on yours. Good luck and when you figure it out please post how you fixed it.

I think that your tilt limit switch is open when depressed, not closed. If it is stuck open, it would be the same as though disconnected. Why not bypass it temporarily (close the circuit) and see?

Hello

A fellow Hydra Sports owner.. Your previous note stated you already disconnected the limit switch. I did not see that you checked the relays yet as the previous posted suggested. Have you located the relays? I assume you have two control swiches (on the engine pan and the main controls) do they both have the same result?
I know my old 92 TT electronics pretty well but not the 98. I think they are relatively close execpt for the limit switch. and that, you have ruled outas the problem.

Re: Trim not working 1998 250 Johnson

My point was that you did not check the limit switch because you cannot check it by disconnecting it.

Just the oposite is required because the switch opens when the limit is reached and if it sticks open, you cannot tilt up until you complete the circuit to the relay.
