Hey folks.
1969 Evinrude 85. It has the power tilt feature, but when I hook up the lead to the battery. Nothing.. There is a single cable coming out of the hydraulic motor with a connection to the I would assume positive side of the Batt. I haven't traced anything else and if this motor is shot I wouldn't invest in the Tilt/trim replacement probably just run on a manual setting. My question is I have it set in the highest trim position and it does get the bow up quite a bit before trimming out. I know having it trimmed up to a point just before cavatation provides the best performance while running. But if it's manual whats the best setting ? If its all the way down it will be up on plane quicker and pull a skiier out of the hole quicker but will suffer at WOT or a bit below. Does it have to have the pin in there ? or could you let the motor trim out naturally ? Not sure if thats safe or not I had an old Bayliner with a 180 Volvo in line 6 that the outdrive was an automatic trim it floated through a range of degrees. Not sure if this applied to outboards. Would a motor find it own trim at 30 mph and not come flying out of the water.. If I can Trouble shoot he Tilt ( I think its auto tilt not Tilt/trim) thats OK , but I can live with manually raising motor to trailer it
Regards !
