trim on sterndrive

i have a 79 mercruiser 120hp, and i cannot get the trim to go back up. it makes the humming sound but dosent move or barely moves. when i push the button to go down it will go down good but wont go up. it was working just fine too. is there any ideas.

I would suspect you are low on fluid. Same sound I got on my 79 mecruiser. See post above about leaky trim cylinder. There was a reservor on the star., right side of my boat. I removed the plug, slotted screw and found the fluid low. Adding fluid fixed the problem for now and I hope the rest of the season but this winter looks like a project to find the leak. Mine shows sign, like oil pudding in the engine compartment. Good luck. Sharps-Nut
