Just bought 1988 jason 1800 sf with 150 mercury blackmax. Boat runs good after it get going fast but run awful getting up to speed. Trim alarm goes off. Boat is real slow and sluggish out of the hole. Feel like it is flooding. Could it be the way it is trimmed. New to boating. Any ideas?

Re: trim or motor?

Trim alarm???????? There is no Trim alarm.

A steady tone is an OVERHEAT ALARM, you better service that water pump before you destroy that motor!!!!!!!

Bogging on take off is usually a sign of dirty carbs. Clean them.

Get a FACTORY Service Manual to learn how to properly adjust the carb linkage and set it together with the timing advance. It makes all the difference in the world.

Re: trim or motor?

could be that the motor has a 'safe' feature that causes the motor to throttle back when a malfunction is detected. This would be consistent with an alarm (such as overheating as Commander suggests). You can check the manual if you have one (or search the internet) to see if your engine has such a 'safe' function. It's possible that when the engine reaches higher RPMs the cooling is better and the engine appears to run better. I agree that the first thing to do is change the impeller and have the coolant flow checked.
