Trim pin for 1975 25hp Evinrude

Anyone know how I can get a spare trim pin for a 1975 25hp Evinrude? I can't find the part # on the BRP website. I would like to get the part # and order it from NAPA.

I sure like the pinless design on my 6 much better.

of course it is on the BRP site. Look at the exhaust housing group. It is part number 378158. $56.95. Still want one?
NAPA isn't going to have that part.

Do you think a bolt with a retaining nut or a push pin with a detent on the end would get me home in a pinch? I needed to change my trim on my last outing but was afraid I would drop it overboard.

I've used a stainless threaded rod in place of that pin for years...but I don't ever move the pin.

1/4" Dia. length of stainless rod, drill both ends for a small clevis pin, and you have it

Fine, except isn't it considerably larger than 1/4"?

The small plastic clip (that keeps it from falling in the water) on mine was broken off.

I asked about ordering a new one here (Germany), and they looked it up, and said it would cost a little over $100 for a OEM pin. I said WHAT? That is half of what I paid for the whole motor! And she said, I should buy a new motor, from them, and I wouldn't have such problems. They said the same thing when I bought a impeller kit for it.

It is now safety wired to the motor with a stainless steel cable, so I don't loose it. Cable cost about a dollar.

The Marine industry is going to kill itself, it it keeps up the practice of screwing their meal ticket.

FR: Your right, it's .312, or 5/16. I cut mine from a length of shift rod I had laying around.
