trim problem 88 johnson or rude

my friend has an 84 boat with a johnson 88hp outboard with power trim..
model # e 88mslcus sn r1483493
i think its a rude sorry
power trim will not go up
we have current to power trim.. it bypassed. brushes are old and thier no cam on the contact points. is this normal. he had it out last week and it worked fine can he just replace the motor..it will not turn...
if he can get the whole unit off ebay does the motor have to be pulled to replace the whole trim ***. also the top big screw is that incase of emergecy's to raise and lower the motor.
the unit worked to water got in it.

If youved done all your checks and are sure it is indeed the trim motor that is shot, you dont need to pull the ram and hydraulic set up, just unscrew the trim motor and bring it in to any small starter / motor repair shop and they;ll fix you up for pretty cheap, bout 20 to 100 bucks depending on how much is gone.
