Trim problem

I have a 1989 bravo 1 with xd trim system. The trim goes down ok. When I try to move it up it barely goes up. Takes like 2 minutes to raise it fully. I remember when I bought the boat last year when you where raising it it made 2 or 3 different noises while going up. I also remember fiddiling with the trim senders adjustment. Can I have adjusted the trim sender incorrectly causing it to think its up all the way, or is my pump shot?

I'm not trying to be a smart a**, but have you checked the fluid level. You might be low...if you are low check for a possible leak.

Re: Trim problem

The oil level is full. It is kind of white/milky. But I ve never had to add to it. Even before, it was milky and it worked ok. Thanks for the response though.

Re: Trim problem

The white milky could be air mixed with the oil, or even worse, water. Id change out the fluid, but if it is air you ar going to have to find where it is coming from. Id bet it is air!

Re: Trim problem

the trim limit ( port side )<br />can effect going up, but your trailer button or switch overrides that function <br /><br />here is my suggestion: let the drive down and remove the rear pin. This lets your trim cylinders move without the weight <br />if it still dosent go up you can lube the trim cylinders and try again if that dosent work??<br />prabobaly need a new pump.<br />one more thing to think about battery voltage<br />and corrosion on the wires <br />you should have 12.5 to about 14 volts (engine running) for the test

I had a similar problem but in the opposite directions. The end cap bushing in one of the trim cylinders was seized. You may have a bad cylinder assuming your pump is ok and fluid level is ok. You can do as had been suggested and see what the cylinders do with no weight on them. You can then take the cylinders apart and check them out and rebuild them as necessary:<br /><br /> http://www.mercstuff.com/page05.htm
