When purchased my boat had two sleeves on the hydraulic shafts. If I take these off the lower unit/prop eventually sags all the way down. Now I see why they had these sleeves in place! What do you think causes this and should I worry about it or just use the sleeves when trailering, etc.? Thanks!!!

My best guess =

Leaky check valves inside the trim pump

Probably some debris lodged in the system // or their could be some wear on the balls & seats

Ayuh,...... Probably the valves in the pump, but could be the cylinder seals,....

If ya don't fix it, it'll never hold trim under power, which causes inefficient boatin',....
The hull will be plowin' all the time,....

So is there a way to diagnose for sure? If it is the pump valves, just replace the pump? Where could I find a pump for a 1985 Sunbird with a 3.0 Mercruiser? Is that a difficult job? Thanks!!!
