Hi Guys
I have recently purchased 1992 Glastron 1700 with Mercruiser 3.0 alpha one gen 2. Need to do extensive floor repair and rebuild the engine mount. Also took a bit of doing to get it started but now all is well except for the trim/trailer down. At first it has been intermittent, it would work sometimes and not other times. With no rhyme or reason to it. My first thought was that it is the trim sender on the motor. Took it apart and cleaned it out. Measured the continuity between the wires coming from it and it showed a closed loop so it is sending the correct signal. When I press the down buttons on either side of the throttle lever nothing happens (the solenoid does not click). I can bypass the solenoid and the pump operates without an issue. I have replaced the solenoid with a new one and it made no difference. I am a bit stumped. I cleaned the wiring when I replaced the solenoid so the connections at the terminal should be good. Could it be that both switches are faulty in the down position or am I missing something super obvious?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Disconnect the control wires at the solenoid and with a little help, and a voltmeter, test that you are getting a clean signal from the control switch.

Ayuh,...... Clean All the connections, startin' at the battery posts,.....

'n both ends of the ground cable,......

My first thought was that it is the trim sender

That only affects the up circuit,...... down should be continuously powered,....

Thank you for the advice. Finally found the problem. Checked the switches and they worked. Started checking downstream and finally came across a plug the connects the switch to the solenoids. Did't even know it existed :). turned out it was just not seated right. Made me happy and pissed off at the same time as I have spent hours trying to get it fixed. Thanks again.
