Hello All! :)

Working on a 1998 7.4 Bravo 1 Engine. I'm repainting the bilge area and in the course of doing so realize the trim pump needs attention. The 110 amp fuse is welded on w. rust and will have to be replaced.

Two questions:
  1. Are the "big" fuses on these pumps always 110 amps? In particular, a 1998-ish one.
  2. Has anyone had success using a substitute fuse such as a wafer style or a circuity breaker style?

Thanks in advance!

110 amp fuse

Never seen a 110 amp fuse on anything that is on a boat. Might find that size on the alternator IF it was changed out for a high output one.

The trim pump should have a 20 amp fuse

BT I think your trying to show me something like this

did find it as item 15 p/n 88-79023T10

After seeing it, never noticed before but guess it has been there. Who would think these would ever blow. I'll retract and say, I see no reason to replace the fuse. The wire is a 10 gauge wire going from the starter post to this, and the wire should burn into before the 110 amp did. As for a breaker, I don't see an issue

Have one at amazon

Most of the newer boats use that to combine the alt output and main ships power at the main starter lug. The downside to that is if it blows you lose all power .By removing that red wire and putting it to the lug by itself only the alt output is fused. Should you blow it now you only lose the alt output and dont go dead in the water.
I remove those from my boats and install a maxifuse for the alt output only. The main ship power is protected by the 50 circuit breaker mounted on the motor.
