Trim Pump Clicks

Hello, I have a mercruiser trim pump with up and down solenoids. When I hit the trailer button the outdrive will go up until it is fully up. When I go to trim it down the pump clicks, but the motor does not run.

Is the clicking sound the switch in the relay flipping positions? Is this a bad solenoid, pump motor, or trim switch?

This problem was happening at the end of last season, but the pump would eventually run and then it would not have the problem for the rest of the day. Only after trailering. I want to fix this problem this year though, before i trailer it to the lake, and have to go home early.

Any help would be apriciated, especially with how to diagnose the solenoids/switch/pump.

Thanks,

Re: Trim Pump Clicks

sounds like the trim down solenoid ..
maybe able to swap the up and down solenoids and make sure . that would check the switch, pump and solenoids.
do a good visual on the connectors when switching
i/e corrosion/dirty etc....

If problem stays with down after swapping ..then its the switch..

the fact that the pump runs means its probably ok
run's one way for up ,and reverse's for down..
same parts are used in pump
