I have a 2011 Regal 2300 with a Volvo 5.7 GI DP CAT. The propeller will not come up. A mechanic said it could be the trim pump fuel. Can anyone tell me what type of fuel it uses, or give me other suggestions? Thanks.

How about trim pump fluid . . . (not fuel)

Does the pump make a noise when you try ? If it's making an inconsistent airiated noise, it may need fluid topped up then worked up and down to self bleed. It would beg the question....where has the fluid gone and why though ?
Without trying to be offensive and given your original question.....are you defo operating it right ? Does it come up so far and then stop ? If so, you may not be operating the trailer function.
It would be great to hear what kind of noise it's making.
If it is just clicking, it could be the solonoids. Is the battery ok ?
Try operating it with the engine bay open and listen to the pump unit....it's usually down one side of the engine or perhaps on the rear bulkhead inner transom.

I have a 2011 5.7 Cat 300 also. The trim pump is on the outside of the boat, in the drive near the bottom. You could not engineer a worse place for a electric motor, and hydraulic pump if you tried. Yup under water. Many people have had trouble with them. Like Volvo fuel cells they are very pricey. About 1,000$ if you do it yourself. Double that if you take it to dealer. I hope someone starts to make an aftermarket replacement like they started to for the fuel cells. Another reason Mercruiser seems to have a better design for the trim system. Dave-R
